Mad About Quilts is a business created out of a genuine love of quilting. The title is an acronym derived from our names, Mary Ann And Dora, and we really are mad about quilts! Fabrics, colors, textures, patterns-we love it all!

We met about seven years ago after displaying our quilts at a local quilt show in Mansfield. While busy working in other careers and raising our families, we found that more and more of our free time was spent quilting. Our friendship has grown along with our passion for quilting, and 2 years ago Mad About Quilts, LLC, was formed.

Mary Ann also learned to sew at an early age making clothing in High School. Followed by halloween costumes for her children and even bridesmaids dresses for her daughter’s recent wedding. Over the years she has dabbled in drawing, painting and photography, but eventually was drawn to quilting. Mary Ann found that quilting is the perfect outlet for her creativity incorporating some faction of each of her prior hobbies in one way or another through fabric.

Dora began sewing at the age of 8 and made most of her wardrobe throughout her high school years, making her first quilt at 18 to take to college.  Though she has learned many crafts including knitting, crocheting and embroidery and had taken beginner art lessons from her father at a young age, she began quilting exclusively 20 years ago, and enjoys making both traditional and landscape quilts. Inspiration for her landscape quilts comes from her father’s acrylic paintings that cover the walls of her Mansfield home.

With their similar backgrounds in sewing and art, quilting has evolved as the ideal blending of their creative talents.  In early November, 2009, they opened their new quilting studio which has given them more room to collaborate on their own designs and patterns, as well as offering a new Long Arm Rental program for quilters to “quilt their own” quilt using the long arm machine in their studio.
